Save background color allows you to specify the background color when the png being displayed in a browser doesn t support variable transparency. Well in gimp you have to specify for each layer that does not already contain transparency that you would like to add an alpha channel to that layer and thus give it transparency. Change the jpg part of the file s name to png for example bear jpg would become bear png.
